Our Impact
With every pair of shorts bought we plant 10 mangroves with our partner charity the LEAF!
Our shorts are by their very nature low impact, they are made from waste material and the team of seamstresses are paid a pre-agreed price. However, at TooShorts we know life is TooShort to not be going above and beyond for the environment. That is why with every pair, we plant a bunch of trees; creating habitat and sucking up some of that CO2 you made.
Mangroves are key ecosystems, they form the zone between land and sea, and have the power to help protect both from human behaviour. They create nursery grounds for fish and other animals humans rely on for food. They can provide timber for building as well as firewood or charcoal for cooking with. They store carbon! They can reduce damage from storm surges and erosion from the sea. They act as a filtration system by which to minimise pollutants, silt and waste from entering the sea from the land, and likewise can trap plastics and heavymetals from passing the mangrove line and reaching the shore. They provide habitat for birds, reptiles amphibians and more. They can create ecotourism activities and their filtration ability can be key to the growth of seagrass and other habitats that animals such as turtles depend upon.
LEAF works with community groups to ensure communities are paid fairly to raise and plant mangroves in areas they have come to realise need to be restored. And we are proud to support them on this journey.
Takaungu Creek restoration
As LEAF, we create awareness and capacity to build the community while providing diverse livelihood options that do not destroy the mangrove but rather protect them.
